Individual Volunteer
Courage Reins volunteers play an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and meaningful experience for participants. Volunteers bring patience, compassion, teamwork, and a willingness to learn—helping create an environment where both people and horses can grow, connect, and thrive.
Volunteers work alongside our Barn Managers and staff on each shift. Together, this unique team helps care for our facilities and horses while preparing for Courage Reins programs and clients. Volunteers may assist with feeding, grooming, cleaning, preparing horses, maintaining program areas, setting up and tearing down activities, and completing the many daily chores and tasks that keep our barn running safely and smoothly.
Volunteers also have the opportunity to become directly involved in our programs. Training is provided so volunteers can develop the knowledge and skills needed to confidently support our clients and instructors during classes. Depending on the program and volunteer's training, this may include leading horses, side-walking with riders, assisting with activities, or providing support during therapeutic riding and horsemanship sessions.

Being a Courage Reins volunteer is about more than completing chores or helping during a class. Every job matters. From cleaning a stall and preparing a horse to walking beside a rider during a lesson, each volunteer contributes to the success of our programs.
You don't have to know everything about horses when you start. We provide training and opportunities to learn. What we ask is that you bring reliability, patience, compassion, teamwork, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to the safety and well-being of both our clients and horses.
Together, our volunteers, staff, instructors, and horses create a place where people can discover new strengths, build meaningful connections, and find their courage.
